Coincidentally, the first problem we had on the prior boat was the diesel heater pickup tube and they replaced it with the setup you described, and we had no issues with it from that point forward. It was a bit of a mess at the beginning though because the prior gasket cracked and was leaking a decent amount of diesel in to the bilge when we were sailing...glad that didn't turn in to a disaster.The standpipe provided by Wallas looks like the following: wallas furnace fuel standpipe Hard to see, but the toggle plate is beneath the nut, washer and gasket that mounts on the outside of the tank, while the toggle plate tilts into place inside through the tank hole; simple, effective and secure.
