Diesel Fumes

I have a 1988 C30 with a Universal 25XP diesel. I noticed excessive fumes while motoring this year and the cabin interior seems to sustain a diesel odor. The Catalinas that dock around me don't seem to have this odor. Before I start digging into the exhaust system, does anyone have any advice? Thanks.

Look for a hose coming from the valve cover breather assembly on top of the engine. The hose should be routed to the air filter. If the hose doesn't go into the air filter you can cut a hole through the filter element and just stick the hose in. This allows the fumes coming from the breather outlet hose to just be sucked back into the engine. Hope that helps, Ron

Look for leaks, too

My fuel filter leaks just enough to be annoying, but I hestitate to overtighten it for fear of stripping the setscrew. So I wedge a cotton ball in there and use newsprint to soak up the drip. All this creates fumes, but not as much as the previous posting.

Diesel Smell

I had a similar problem, found that my aluminum fuel tank became porous over time and was slowley but surely leaking into the bilge. Run a paper towel along the bottom of the tank then check for diesel odor. If not the case then check your entire fuel line

Thanks for the replys...after further checking...

I think the odor is exhaust odor and not the fuel. Does that spark any further thoughts?
