I'm sure there is a story behind this question.....

I don't know the answer, but I would check with professional cleaning services that do restoration cleaning after fires, floods, etc. They may know of a process. I presume you have googled for the answer as I know that there are some answers available- they may or not be applicable to your situation.

If it is a small piece of foam, you could just replace it.

Do a search there was a thread on getting diesel smells out a while back. Not sure if it was specifically for cushons but it was for the cabin area.

Pure Ayre

Does anyone know how to clean the diesel fumes out of foam rubber? Thanks,
Buy some PureAyre PureAyre Remove the covers and send to cleaners or launder at home. Put the PureAyre in a garden pump spray bottle (unless you just like pulling a trigger sprayer till your fingers are ready to fall off)...spray cushion foam from both sides untill you've gotten enough into it to penetrate to the middle. Let it dry...odor will be gone permanently. PureAure also works in musty wet lockers...foulies...PFDs. Put anything that's loose outside in the sun to dry all day...turn on a fan in the cabin for 12-24 hours.

The stuff works! I use it at home for some unpleasant jobs.

Capt Jim-How long have you owned dream chaser? The fist marina I was at in Corpus Christi, there was a 27' boat next to mine named dream chaser owned by a guy named Capt. Dave. It's port o call was port aransas.
I got the smell out of my 30 year old cushions by laying out a carpet on a concrete floor, using a water hose with hot water in it, pouring car wash detergent all over them and spraying and grape stomping them until they were completely sudsed up. Then I hung them up and rinsed them until clean water came out. It was a lot of work but I am sure I didn't just mask the oder for a while, I really cleaned it out.

Being a professional who lives aboard, my wardrobe smells of diesel. Maybe I should be doing my laundry with this stuff :).

I think you should!

My dad spent the last three years of his life in a nursing home...I did his laundry...and for two years, I bought PureAyre by the 6-gallon case! If it could completely eliminate the odor in some of what I had to deal with, it'll have no trouble getting rid of diesel odors in clothes.

Re: Pure Ayre

We have had some musty smell from our cushions, and while work is being done on our boat we brought them home - my intention was to remove the covers and wash them... alas, one pull on the zipper and the metal tab just snapped off. These are plastic zippers with METAL pulls! aargh! So, I tried the following:
1. A few days in blazing heat and sunlight, flipping the cushions. Still a bit musty.
2. Fabreeze anti bacterial. I was doubtful, never really liked the stuff before. The result is pretty amazing. I had decided I was done, then it rained!
3. An accidental rain water rinse.. then wiped the exterior of the cushions with a clean towel.
4. A few more days of blazing sun.

My cushions smell clean, the musty smell is gone. There is a faint fabreeze odor (one of the reasons I don't like the stuff) I've stored them back in the house and there is no odor.
I would skip the rain water rinse... but FYI for those with the same problem. Next time, I'll try Pure Ayre.
