Diesel OK.

I almost always buy my diesel at the BP station. The marina fuel dock is $2.19 and BP is $1.75. They are about 300 yards from each other. I also use a West Marine funnel, the one with a filter and water separator, catlg. page 314. You do not provide any detail about your boat like displacement. A guess would be between .5 and .75 gallons an hour. My 2QM20 with a displ. over 18000 averages about .6 at 2500 RPM.

west marine funnel

Ed, what do you do with the waste left in the funnel? What are the proper disposal procedures? Interestingly, my dealer told me to be very careful about buying diesel from marinas. He strongly suggested bringing it in from gas stations as he felt it is less likely to be contaminated by water and other impurities. One caveat is that pouring from a 5 gallon jug, especially through a filter is a two person job.

Funnel... this day and age?

I use a gaz station. A funnel is not the best way. A siphon is better. Canadian tire ( or probably Pep Boys in the US) have a hose with a brass or plastic end containing a ball check valve. You put the jug on the deck, put the end of the hose in the tank (if it goes down a ways it will be faster), the siphon end in the jug, shake up and down thre or four times and there it goes. You just have to watch until it slurps empty! the hose will drain empty. Keep the hose in a grocery bag in the hold and there is no ecological mess, sore back, or anything!

I use the fuel dock in my home port,

I'm lazy, it easier, they have the big cattle boats pulling up all the time getting hundreds of gallons so their stock moves fast enough I'm not as concerned about water contamination, I'm not convinced that diesel from the gas station is pristine clean, it's prohibited in the marina to refuel at your dock and I don't use 25 gallons a year I bet. Mechanically it's okay, I think technically it's illegal cause taxes are different so they die road, farm and marine diesels different colors. Most enforcement I believe is directed towards commercial road vehicles using cheaper agricultural diesel, not really a concern for private citizen maybe.
