Just note on biosides needed in diesel to inhibit bacteria; after sailing a Morris 46 for several years back and forth from Maine to the Caribbean and having major fouling problems with bacteria in our fuel filters, we were told that because of the cold weather in the NE USA, they did NOT have biosides in their diesel fuel at the Marina storage tanks. That led major fouling problems when the boat sailed south. On the other hand, the marinas in the Caribbean all had the bioside incorporated in the diesel at the marina so there was no need to add it by hand when buying fuel down there. The boat was slipped in the Chesapeake when not on the sea. The marina did NOT have bioside diesel; therefore, we had to hand add the bioside when refueling at that marina. It is best to check with the fuel dock personnel when re-fueling along the East coast.
