Phils point about Home Oil heaters is valid

The ammount of cleanliness or water in most home oil heaters is much more tolerant than a diesel engine. In fact there is no comparison. A home oil heaters will just burn the gunk or evaporate and atomize the water and it wouldn't even blink. Just a little water getting through into closed high compression of the cylinder of a diesel engine can cause a lot of damage. Diesel engines need spotlessly clean diesel, home oil heaters can burn very dirty diesels or oils with little long lasting effect . I keep my fuel tank full for the winter and have had no problems with water in fuel. Maybe I'm just lucky. I agree with some on here and feel more water enters the tank via the fill hole with rain or a bad gasket than with condensation, but why give it all that volume of "humid air" in an empty tank to get any condensation started.
