Irwin Citation (1979) 34' Refurbish questions

Hi ,
I am refurbishing my 1979 34' Irwin. I have some questions that perhaps you may be able to help:

1. Diesel Fuel Tank
I removed the diesel fuel tank lid to clean out the tank. In so doing, I now need to replace the lid and seal it. There was some type of gasket that was used between the lid cover and the tank. The lid was constructed of 3/4" plywood encased in fiber glass. I purchased a good grade of 3/4" exterior plywood and fashioned a new cover, which I plan on encasing with fiberglass cloth and resin. I have been unsuccessful in locating a replacement gasket. Does anyone know where I might obtain a gasket? My backup plan is to use 3M 5200 sealant, if I am unable to find a gasket. Is that a viable option?

2. Engine upgrade
My Irwin is currently equipped with a 20 HP Yanmar diesel engine. I removed the engine from the boat for general maintenance, replacement of a defective water pump and repair of a broken oil line. I am considering upgrading to a larger diesel engine, perhaps a 30 HP diesel, if I can find a good used one. Does anyone know where I might look for an engine and also for a water pump and oil line?

3. Floor replacement
I am also replacing the flooring and thought that I would use teak or a synthetic material. Does anyone have an experience with flooring materials?

Any help with answers to the above would be most appreciated. Thanks.

Regards,
Tony:)

Permatex makes a sealant that is suitable for diesel. I used it to seal my tank last year and so far so good. Unfortunately, I can't remember which product it is, but I came across it by calling permatex. I could not find any retail outlets that carried it and had to order it online.

I think you can get a gasket made from Nitril or Buna rubber. I would also consider having a lid made from aluminum.

Permatex may also have some products that could be used for a sealant or even a gasket material for the lid.

Loncoin is one of the mfg. that makes synthetic flooring materials, but there are many other options. You may want to check with some of the boat mfg and see what they are using.

Go to any good auto parts store and ask for some rubber gasket material and go to Home Depot,Loews or a metal shop and you'll find some aluminum for a new tank cover
Take a look on EBay for a used engine, I'm always seeing something but be aware you might be opening Pandora's box as it might not be a drop in,hook up and go installation

Edit: just found this in my favorites

Diesel is a unique problem and I would not rely on just any gasket material to work. Rubber works and you may have to custom make a gasket. Other then that, stick with my earlier recommendation. IMHO

I did this last yr. I purchased nitrile rubber sheet material from mcmaster Carr. I cut the gasket out of the material.
