Diesel Fuel Line

The water diesel fuel separator is being replaced on the boat since the current model hasn't been supported by the mfg for 10 years and new filter elements cannot be located. The replacement is a Racor 430. The current coalescar has a straight metal tubing between the primary Fram fuel filter and coalescar. The 430 requires that we use a 90 degree elbow and flexible fuel line to connect to the Fram filter. The engine is a Yanmar 2QM15 diesel. Can automotive deisel fuel hose be used on a boat?

Coast Guard approved

That makes sense, but I wasn't sure if it was Coast Guard approved hose. Insurance companies would always look for an escape clause to avoid paying claims.

There is a certification by ABYC/NMMA for fuel

lines that has standards for flammability, etc. Go to Tridents' web site for more info. IMHO, the price difference between A1/A2 rated hose and what you get at NAPA, etc. isn't a lot so . . . . . . Good Luck

Yep, cost isn't a factor.

Marine fuel hose is approved by the Coast Guard and is twice the thickness of automotive hose. It also shrinks and closes off fuel flow in the event of fire. Of course by that time your boat is literally toast anyway. But being twice as thick means better abrasion resistance too. That can't be bad. Get the marine stuff. There are lots of places to save by NOT buying 'marine'. This isn't one of them.
