The fluid levels indicator on my 2000 356 operates normally for the freshwater and waste water channels, but very erratically on the diesel fuel channel, sometimes reading full, other times empty, and many in between (while the fuel tank remains half full). I checked the connections on the wiring harness and all are good. I decoupled and recoupled the connectors--no change. I pulled off the indicator unit and electronics and all looks in good condition. I disconnected the wiring harness connector and reconnected it--no change. I then spoke with Snake River and they recommended a new fuel sensor, which I bought, installed, and it worked beautifully for one day. I left for a month and when I returned to the boat it read just as erratic as the old one, while the water channels are still good. I am at a loss. Any experience with that problem? Any fixes? Thanks all Ivan Bekey S/V Victoria H356 #157

Experience with problem, yes

Experience with a solution, no. Our 356 also experiences inconsistent diesel gage levels, while freshwater and waste remain accurate. I have found it just as easy to place a flashlight on the top of the diesel tank and read the number of inches from the ruler I taped to the tank. I have not yet determined if it is a linear relationship of inches to gallons but it seems pretty close. I am eager to see if there are responses that may provide solution.

I don't believe it is linear

The tank seems horizontal on the top, while the bottom of the tank needs to conform to the sloping angle of the stern as it rises up to to the aft locker area. I always thought that when it reaches 1/2 way I would consider about 10 gallons left. It is not a box shape. From the side it kind of looks like this (I wonder how it will appear in the actual printing of this reply?) foward aft |---------------------- | ----------- | ----- |-----

Makes sense

This would make sense. My last fill up was when it reached 7 inches of 14 in height (measured at forward) the fill was for 26 gallons of the 38 gallon capacity. Since I don't fill it frequently, it's a little hard to map it out. Any other observations out there?

356 fuel guage

Hi Ivan, i don't know what happened to my post, but we had the same problem on our 356 and it turned out to be the guage panel, not the sender
