The fuel guage sending unit on my h336 has gone to the big anchorage in the sky. When I look in the catalogs, I see sending units that seem to say that they are "universal." They have the same 5-hole circle pattern of fasteners, and claim to produce the "standard" range of resistances. Has anyone else replaced their fuel guage sending unit? Any advice on brands or types? Are they all the same? Appreciate you sharing your knowledge, Paul sv Escape Artist h336

They are pretty "universal

I've had to replace the sending unit on my H33. From my experience, those "universal" types are just that. You have to adjust the height to the height of your tank, but otherwise you'd never know the differance.

Tele-Flex

My fuel gauge is a tele-flex system. I have a 1996 336. Talk to the West Marine folks. The fuel gauge they sell is the match. Dave

I installed a "universal" replacement unit

I had to replace the sending unit on my 81' H30. I bought a "Universal" unit and followed the instructions on how to cut it to the correct length. The one thing I noticed is that the 5 screw pattern is not symmetrical. That is, the sending unit would only line up with the screw holes in 1 position. I may be mistaken (as I had to get in a cramped lying position to get it installed), but I am pretty certain you have to rotate the top plate and test fit the screws until all 5 screws will thread properly. It seems to work just fine.
