OK This is a rather simple foolish question but Ihave to ask it. My Hunter Legend 27 has a Yanmar Diesel inboard engine with a "RACOR" fuel filter, model 110. How do I exacetly go about changing the filter element. Looking at this filter set up I am a bit confused by all the nuts and arrows of direction on it. There are two removeable nuts on the bottom and a rather large 3/4 inch one on the top. A white plastic slotted vent one is located on the side of the top. What is the correct procedure to remove and replace the filter? Thanks in advance. Barrie

The bottom nut

The Racor 110 housing has two nuts on the bottom as you stated. The one in the center is not really removable but rather a place to put your wrench and unscrew the housing to expose the filter. The other one (off center) is a bleed nut. Back this one off until fuel drains(catch it in a cup). Ideally, you shut off the fuel valve at the tank, open the bleed valve to empty the filter housing, and then remove the cover via the bottom center nut. Lee s/v calaloo

Afterward...

...when you replace the filter, try to fill up the cannister as much as you can before reinstalling. Then use a syringe from West System to shoot another few CCs into the can before you tighten. That way you may not have to bleed the line.

Fuel Filter Replacement

To add to what has already been said, you can use a plastic bag under the filter element to catch any drips or spills and this also serves as a place to hold the canister while you change the element. Frankly, you should learn how to bleed the air out of your system, so I would have a knowledgeable person, friend or paid person, show you how to do all of this the first time. I painted the bleed screws with red finger nail polish so I would know which ones to untighten.

Handy Tool (For Used Oil Filters, Too)

As an alternative to the plastic bag, take a plastic liter soda bottle and cut away the neck and part of the side down to 2" from the bottom (so it looks kinda like a scoop). the used filter will drop into the bottle along with the excess fuel - real easy.
