Diesel Fuel Additives

My 1998 376 only has 200 engine hours, so needless to say not much fuel is used. I live in Phoenix and commute to sail. SHould I add some of the additives I see advertised to my fuel? Or are they all just a bunch of marketing BS? I try to keep my fuel tank topped off, especially in winter. Your help is appreciated.Bob F.

Ck the archives...your question has been discussed...but, quickly... Yanmar recommends the addition of ... cetane booster, lubricity improver, water dispersant, and biocide (but not "Biobar").I think the archive discussions give further details.

Bio-Bor

We were told that you only need Bio-Bor which kills off microbiorganisms that cause problems down the road. We did not need any kind of disel stabilizer.

My understanding is nothing but biocide.

It was my understanding that Yanmar recommends nothing at all in your fuel. Biocide is OKAY (not actually recommended).You want clean clear deisel fuel and nothing else. If you can eliminate any contamination at the dock that is even better (water, dirt etc).

I Use An Additive

I use Bio Bor JF to prevent slime and algae buildup. I also add FPPF Fuel Power which absorbs water. FPPF products are recommended by my Yanmar dealer as the only stuff to use. Call your Yanmar dealer and ask. By the way I use fuel from a truck stop instead of buying it on the water where its quality might be questionable. Its also higher cetane, which means it ignites faster and burns cleaner.Fred Miller S/V M Squared
