Recently took a long motor sail with our 35.5 Legend. No matter what angle we sailed to the wind we had significant diesel fumes swirling into the cockpit. (no smoke). Has this been an issue for anyone? Any advice?

I get them motoring down wind and sometimes if the dodger is completely zipped up.

Oh yes. Little eddys in the back of the boat bring the fumes right in on certain wind angles.

We do have a dodger and we had the center opening window open. Since it was very calm...I also opened the forward hatch to create a good draft through the boat and out...still was pretty potent. Nothing in the cabin...just plenty of exhaust at various points in the cockpit.

There are times when that will happen and it can be serious stuff. Small children or almost anyone can susceptible to Carbon Monoxide poisoning

monoxide is not necessarily in the stink. by the time it arrives to your location, the co ppm have decreased .
stink is not monoxide.
monoxide is odorless.
co is unstable and bonds rapidly with oxygen to become inert by the time it arrives at the cockpit of your boat. i wouldnt surf the boats wake from a swimstep, however, as that is a lil close to the out flow of the gas.

I have a full enclosure but leave the back open in the center. I partially unzip the center dodger panel and also let a little air in both sides. That helps. It's the start ion wagon effect and aggravating. Deposits soot on my Chartplotter pod. I know one fellow who drug a small tarp so when the exhaust came out it was under the tarp and exited well beyond his stern. Think it worked, but would be a small pain to deal with. Offers potential fouling of the prop, etc. I'm not going to try it.

The OP said it was calm and he was motor sailing. Just curious if the fumes were present at all speeds.

I am surprised. I would check your exhaust system for sea water quench problems. If you see no smoke, it suggest that it is not an engine problem if you are not having to add engine oil frequently.
Jim...

fumes happen even without issues from engine. exhaust happens. just make sure you can redirect it..extensions on exhaust outlflow have worked with some folks, others use a flapper of sorts....
sugar scoop transoms allow much more exhaust into cockpit than do old style transoms.
