Diesel Engine Headache

Rick, I had the same problem. The fuel "up stick" (inside the tank)located on top of the fuel tank (located in the aft), has a filter on the end.The filter screen at the end of the up stick is corroded You do not need the filter. The raycor filter is all you need. Saw off the filter at the end and your problem is solved. I had the work done at Barlow's Boatyard in Pocasset,(Bourne, MA.) Ask for David Baines.

Probably not a fuel problem

I asked a friend of mine who knows a GREAT deal about diesels. He doesn't think it's a fuel problem; if it was, operation would be erratic. He thought perhaps either a fouled prop or problems with a rubber coupler between engine and transmission. This coupler will swell with age, epecially if it gets wet with oil. He asked for more particulars. If you can tell be EXACTLY which engine this is as well as which transmission, I might be able to get an answer. Is the engine a Vire or a Buch (which were handled by Westerbeke), model number, age, etc. Same with the transmission. Russ Marcks rkmarcks@operamail.com

Your problem is

The exhaust elbow (where the water hose is connected) remove the elbow and have it boiled out, or get a new one. On my Yanmar this costs $100. but that will probably be the fix.
