Hello,I have a 1980 Hunter 27' with a 1 cylinder Renault diesel engine. It shakes and vibrates at slower speeds. If you have the same engine, does it run about the same, or is it quieter, steadier? Any suggestions? Thx!! Linda
Most one cylinder diesel engines do vibrate and shake a lot during low and idle speed. If you think your's is doing so excessively. . .start by checking the motor mounts. If it runs fine at higher speeds, it would indicate that nothing is wrong with the motor internally.
I do have the Renault engine, and the previous post is right-on: 1 cylinder engines do vibrate a lot. My dockmates refer to my boat as "The African Queen" (and me as "Mr. Alnut") when I come chugging in.That being said, I just did some engine work and tighted down the mounting bolts and adjusted the alignment in the process. It really seemed to cut down on the vibration significantly.
