OK, I am still trying to figure out what to do with LP tank and hose to re-plum the galley stove. Everywhere seems to have problems -- mostly related to where the hose needs to run, if I move the horseshoe mount. The boat was originally set up for COG, and a previously owner converted to LPG, but the tank storage was unsafe. I happened across an add at one of the big discounters for diesel cook stoves. Does anyone have any experience with these? How hot do they make the cabin? I like the winter-time heating option, as the plans call for sailing north eventually, but I am worried that the boat will get too hot in summer.

LOTS of heat

Diesel stoves really put out a lot of heat so you'll probably have to have a second option, such as a campstove, for summer. My experience with diesel stoves also says they smell. Owners will jump to say that the stoves don't smell, it's the day tank or ________ (insert excuse here) but the cabin always seems to smell like diesel. Have you considered Origo stoves? No hoses, just install the unit

disel cook stove

Good Morning:I have found that diesel is a very hot hear and that it has an interesting odor! MY wife and I, in more than 40 years have sailing have used them all! The one that we prefer is Alcohol. We had a TASCO (Taunton Stove Company, Taunton, MA) two burner (Kenyon) with oven that we installed on out 31' O'day and went south for a year. It replaced the original two burner top Princess that had been in the boat since new. We used the stove every day, morning -noon- and night..made breads, cakes, pies (you might wonder when we had time to sail!) for the entire trip. We burned a gallon a month for fuel and we NEVER had difficulty locating a fuel source. I won't belabor safety and usage issues. Suffice it to say, I'm still here and have no trouble writing you this note! Best of luck!

Diesel stoves

Debra; Not sure of yacht-type stoves, but I was stationed on an army tug in Thailand that had a diesel stove. It turned the galley into a sauna and the cook should have recieved a medal for duty there. Might be nice in the north, though.
