There are 2 filters
I don't know if you are aware that there usually are 2 fuel filter on most diesel engines. The 1st one is a water separator filter that separate water from diesel. It is usually mounted within the engine compartment. Your Racor filter is probably R11T and is a water separator filter. You don't have to replace the filter every time. You usually just have to drain the water out. When the filter gets saturated, then you replace the filter. It will also filter out some of the big stuff and gunk, but the main purpose is water. The 2nd filter in mounted on the side of the engine, and that is the one that filters crud from the fuel. This filter is usually made by the engine manufacturer, but there often are aftermarket ones that will fit. If you follow the fuel line from the 1st filter, you will run into the 2nd filter. It is usually a small canister with a pump lever on the side. You may be able to take your current filter to West Marine and match it up.Who is the maker of your engine?
