Just bought a 1985 Hunter 25.5 with out a engine, a workable main sail. I paid $1,200 for the boat all its gear (jib, storm jib, large bruce anchor) and one months dock fee. Also the boat needs to have its cushins redone. Advice please!

never ask after you bought!!!

What are you going to do if you found out that you made a bad deal? the time to have done your homework is before the sale (not after)

Are you sure that's all it needs?

I am assuming that you have some experience on the water, but not too much if you are asking this question. That's okay - that's what this website is for. The general order of things is to have an experienced sailor, or better yet, a marine surveyor, evaluate and appraise the boat before you buy it. Since you didn't do this first, I would recommend you do it soon. The reason I mention this is that your boat may have serious safety problems of which you are not aware. You should have it checked out to make sure that this is not the case - otherwise, you could get into trouble quickly. The worst case scenario is that you find that you did not get the deal of a lifetime. That being said, I hope it is a great craft, and that you will have to spend minimal cash to get it up to standards. Good Luck! Rob

For Cushions, ask Hunter for original vendor name

That's about it..

Are you pulling our leg?

As a general rule, but to start with boat trader or soundings to get a feel for asking prices.. plus a local used boat dealer. In this case, you stole the boat.. Have fun..

Even if its a piece of crap, its still a good deal

But do have it checked out. That way you know what needs (if anything) to be done. A marine survey will probably cost around $300.
