Re: Was.........Going Sailing This Weekend...

This is the kind of weekend that makes me glad to have a house along shore.

Good question. I usually stay in until the end of October or beyond, because most of the heavy boat hauling is done at my yard. It allows me to pick my weather for haul out. I do alot of that myself and good weather helps(for instance, next week looks pretty good, sunny, 50).

But we usually get some great sailing in late October here. We burn a lot of wood in October too. :)End MA fireplaceEmail.jpg

... the ski areas wont be opening for a while ... at least until the ground solidly freezes. Hell, they havent event hauled out nor tested out the snowguns yet.

So, XC 'kicking boots' and diagonal strides for me ... beats hell out of freezing your bippy off in a sailboat ... during a friggin BLIZZARD. Del. & Raritan Canal is great place for XC. :-o

Kris - love the stove and the tendee. But for goodness sake, buy that poor lady a new pair of pants! Or at least get out your Sailrite and fix them!

Snow on board

Got a few inches yesterday and getting 3-5 this afternoon in Boston. Triple Play gets hauled Monday. Have to get her pumped out and over to the hauling dock before the snow flies around 3pm.

Had pancakes made with bananas from my yard this morning.
Rain has let up and if it dries out I'll need to trim and edge the grass.
Daughter is having a Halloween party in the back patio and there is another party and punkin carving down the street so that will take care of social activities for the evening.
Will need to dig out my long sleeved shorts soon for when it gets cold:D.
We're just breaking out as you Northern brothers and sisters are tucking in!

Re: Was.........Going Sailing This Weekend...

It might be fun to sail tomorrow on a bright day and snow covering all the hills around us. We have close to 4" on our deck right now and much more is expected going into the evening and later. The largest trees have shed their leaves, it looks like, but there are a lot of understory maples that still have leaves and they are drooping over the fence in the backyard already. There may have to be a lot of clean-up with downed trees.

Our map is calling for 8" total but the coverage for the daytime was only supposed to be 2" ... we have more already and the snow is really coming down at the moment.

If I sail tomorrow, this will be a very unique opportunity!

Got 3" of rain here last night. Would be 30" of snow. Cloudy now light northwesterly breeze, 80ish. No bananas here, but we have key limes on the tree.

Did go sailing today just to spite the storm.....

Got up early and took myself for a nice little sail before the storm set in. Just me & some seals on the bay...:)

Was a little ice on the deck this morning but nothing that didn't melt off when the sun hit it..Temps were in the low 30's but not too windy... Gotta love late fall. Stuck the boat back on the mooring and stripped the canvas off for the blow and snow. Will have to put it back on next week..

Woke up to sleet and rain and moderate winds. It has been going down hill ever since.

You da man!!!

It was under 70 here this morning. Hoodys, gloves, and ear muffs were the clothing favored by the early dog walkers.

That is short pants and short sleeve shirt weather. Real men go out for the paper in the morning barefoot in six inches of snow. Don't want to get their shoes wet.

It's amazing how quickly your body accomdates to 90 degrees plus for 150-180 consecutive days. Once acclimatized, 70 windy and grey are unpleasant. real men here go barefoot on asphalt hot enuff to cook eggs.

When I was stationed in the Philippines we had a couple of day when the temps dipped towards 60 degrees and the guys were walking around with blankets on their shoulders.

For two years in college, junior & senior year, in NH, I wore shorts to campus every day of the school year.. A buddy bet me I couldn't or wouldn't... I even commuted to campus on my mountain bike during those two years rain, sleet or snow, in shorts.. Never once had an issue, my legs just don't get cold, and, I generally hate pants... Of course I am Scottish, born in Alaska and my ancestors wore Kilts... I start sweating at 50f...;)

Hell, I open the windows at home when the temps get to 25F....:D
