Hello

Going to change trans fluid today. Manual says use Dexron ATF fluid. I understand that over the years Dexron fluid was improved to the point of Dexron VI. What should I be using in my trans. I have a Yanmar Engine / Kanzaki-Carl Hurth KBW10E Trans.

Thanks all.

If it is a Hurth all you need is an ATF III or equivalent fluid... ZF has a list of compatible fluids on their site. I believe the KBW10 is closest to the HBW10 or ZF10..

Anything labeled as "ATF" should work fine as these usually meet ATF III or better specs. Wal*Mart has it...

Dexron VI is a synthetic fluid and in the automotive world can cause slippage if the transmission is not designed for it.

Use Dexron III if the unit calls for Dexron.

1. Use anything labeled Dexron, regardless of #. IV is simply newer, but those transmissions have been working with original Dexron for a loong time.

2. Hurth transmissions will run with ATF, too. Never mix the two.

Just go buy some Dexron XXILVVII. :)
