Any comments on sailing on Detroit Lake, Oregon? I'm thinking of making a trek over there this summer and maybe mooring "Panacea" there for a month but thought I'd check here for comments. Any input would certainly be appreciated. s

From Eugene take I-5 North...

.... to Salem then hang a right so you're headed toward the mountains, go past Mill City and there's Detroit Res. Oh, and bring your fishing pole. There's a grass runway in Mill City with high-voltage power lines and a canyon wall at one end and tall firs at the other end. Don't try to take off with a full load in the springtime with tall grass and a soft field! Those trees are a real pucker-factor. And don't ask me how I know.

Try Trailer Sailing Videos

The Hunter site sold trailer sailing videos that features the lake on one DVD (with an H26). I believe the film maker also lives in Bend.

Steve, another place you might try,

is Howard Praire Lake east of Ashland. A couple of us from the Brookings Yacht club are planning on trailering their boats over for 3 or 4 months this summer. One couple that did it last year said they had pretty good winds most every day, and they were able to improve their sailing a lot. It should be about 180 miles for you as it is for us on the coast.

It snowed - GO

Be there on the 4th weekend if you like fireworks and crowds. Several sailors summer there and also power boats. There are two marinas one is behind the bridge and also two public docks. light winds in the am around the island increasing to moderate in the afternoon. Towards the dam the wind picks up a bit more past the point, generally to the East. If weather is coming in all bets are off and I've seen it blowing in opposite directions at the same time. I was told that if one learned to sail well here that they could sail well most anywhere. There are floating toilets and the CG Aux at Modoc ramp offers courtesy inspections most years. Pay to park or really pay later. Marion Co. patrols. Lots of room on the island some camp there. Watch out for the shallows that strech out from town towards the island because of stumps and varied depth.

You were looking for more sailing

time weren't you? How much time can you take off? How about doing the "Great American Loop" we could trailer to the Mississippi to start. Down it then up the ICW, Erie Canal, to our starting place. It could take all summer I would think.
