If a boat has been on the hard for 12 months, how accurately can a surveyor detect rot in the core material?

all he needs is a moisture meter...

they are, generally, accurate at detecting moisture in the core. I wish I had one in my toolbox (they can be a bit pricey). If anyone knows where to get one for around $100.00, I'd be interested...

Also sounding the area with a rubber mallet.

Moisture meters are not all that accurate according to well trained surveyors. There are numerous articles written about false readings. They use them to a point, but rely on their experience with sound to verify the presence of moisture in a hull or deck.

where is the boat?

Hello, Is the boat in an area that is warm or cold? If it's below freezing there is no moisture to detect. The surveyors I spoke to told me to wait until spring (in the northeast) before examining boats for deck leaks. Brry
