Hi! I recently purchased a very well-kept 1977 25. Unfortunately nobody seems to know where the rudder went! The boat was stored at a secluded dock and I suspect that it was either stolen or lost overboard somehow. Anyway, I'm in desperate need of a rudder. Does anyone have plans/measurements they could provide so that I could make my own or know a company I could turn to that makes rudders for this boat? Thanks! Sean

Rudder

Sean - Like Ed says, call D and R. Not cheap but quality and the boat is more fun if you can sail it. :) Justin - O'day Owners' Web

Thanks, but...

Hi! Thanks to you both for the suggestion. Yikes! They are expensive. I called Floss Foam down in Florida (they advertise in Good Old Boat) and got a MUCH lower preliminary quote. However, they don't have a plan for the 25's rudder. What I'm hoping for is to be able to get the measurements from somebody that I can then send down to these guys. If I had the rudder (but it was broken) that would be easy. In this case, it's not!

Building the Rudder

Sean, I have written a few times in the past about my homebuilt OD25 rudder. Please check the archives. If you would like some measurements I can take them as the rudder is in my shop. I have included a pix of the rudder. It is all wood, and the white is teflon paint over epoxy on mahogony. Let me know. Don

I can take a pic and paste in dimensions if.....

you still need them Sean. I have a 1976 ODay 25 but I think the rudder was new in 2000. Let me know here or my email is jbuhner@effingham.net. I am considering building or having built a kick up rudder. the way the 25 is configured the keel can pass over an object but since the rudder sets 6" deeper than the fixed part of the keel it can really play havock if the rudder hits bottom.

Thank you! (Yes I'd love the measurements!)

Don- Thanks so much for your offer...it'd be great if you could share the measurements of your rudder! Now I'm gonna go over and search the archives for your article! Sean
