I have a new old Lowrance X 48 and want to install the wide angle [20 degree?] thru hull transducer when the boat comes out of the water for bottom paint. What is the best/easiest location for it on the H3?. The instructions say not to install it behind other thru hull fittings. It comes with a heavy rubber gasket. Raymarine suggests using 5200 between the thru hull flange and the hull, but this forum recommends against that as too permanent. What is preferred to bed thru hulls that are permanently submerged in salt water?

Yes, I thought of that. Were I to drill into the hull I would want ready access to it so I could pop an emergency plug in there if the thru-hull failed. The question is where in the H31 hull is good shooting and still accessible?
I am not familliar with your bot type - however the transducer should be placed about 6 inches in front of the keel and as center as possible. Basically there should be no disterbance of the water near the transducer. Use 3M 4200 instead. Make sure it is made for below waterline. I am not sure why you selected a 20 degree transducer. Normally 10 degree is all that is needed if you place the transducer in the center of the haul.
Joe, 20 degree was not so much selected as what I was able to get ahold of given the age of the display unit. I am hoping someone, maybe like Steve Dion who has probably crawled every inch and crevice of the H31, will give me an idea of where one can get forward of the keel without having to tear anything up inside the boat. I'm not sure how far forward the keel extends on the H31 hull. I see keel bolts in the shower bilge.
