my DataMarine Depth meter is saying "MSD" which means that it is not gettinga good signal. Does this imply that the transducer is fouled up with algae or something and if so, how do you clean it without jumping in the water. Thanks. Steph

Where under the boat is it located?

Mine sets off the shallow water alarm when ever a raft of vegatation gets under the boat. You may have to go for a swim.

MSD stands for missing signal detected,

and the last time that happened to us, we ended up replacing the transducer. It turned out to be a bigger project than I expected, since the old transducer was no longer being built, and the replacement needed a new thru-hull. I experimented with a cheap Hummingbird fish finder that I siliconed to the inside of the hull till I had time to haul and repair the Datamarine. I kinda liked the fish finder (I'm cheap) and liked watching the fish under the sailboat. The silicone is tricky and keeps losing it's seal and needed constant re attaching, but it was lots better than MSD...lol. Good luck!

mine ocassionally does the same thing. first is there any bottom paint on it? this will cause a problem. alge can cause it to msd. also some times if theres fish very close it will also cause it to msd. most of the time adjusting the gain pot on the back of the receiver will cure the problem.
