Has anybody been through the Narrows lately with 5 foot or more draft?
Thanks,
Paul

Am trying to find that out myself. Will ask at our marina social this week end and post any info.
Would be nice if the CG, towing people, bay magazine, or someone who should know would keep a blog on that and Queenstown inlet as they frequently shoal.

I went through Knapps late last fall and never saw depths below 5-ft. But you must be very careful to follow the makers very closely on both ends of the Narrows.

Too early in the season, no one has been through knapps yet. Knapps, Kent and Queenstown change frequently.

The marker that was moved eastward a couple of years ago (but then moved back after the most recent dredging) has been move back to the east side of the channel again, and there is a floating green to the east of that. I have been through there in traveling northward last month on a sailboat with a 5' draft staying more or less right down the center and had no problem. I am told that areas to be careful of are on the red side between R2KN and R4, the green side between G3 and G5, and the red side between R6 and R8.

Mulf,
Thanks. The charts are showing 2 feet from March 2015, so I was concerned. We ended up not going to Oxford due to the wind direction, but it is comforting to know a larger boat can make it through.

I draw 5.0. I traveled out of the Choptank through Knapps Narrows on this past Sunday no more than an hour after high tide. Those of you out on the bay that day know it was blowing hard from the NW so maybe that didn't help. Arriving at the east end entrance to the channel we had a couple boat lengths of 5.5 or so feet. Coming out the west end I saw 5.0 a number of times but I found somewhat deeper water as I moved south to hug the red markers, so I might have been better to hug the red from the start. So, stay close to the red and watch the tide stage.

I don't know the date of this scan, but last year saw them taking soundings from a boat zig-zaging over the channel. Present accuracy is not guaranteed.
