I installed a Raymarine Bi-Data
This spring went for the bi-data that Chuck R mentioned. Other than being a little scary drilling two large holes in the bottom of my O'Day 25, it was pretty easy and works well. Make sure this is the FIRST thing you check when you launch, as mine leaked a little (not tight enough on the screw in speed transducer).Prior to this, I used a Humminbird fish finder with good results. I mounted the transducer in the bilge and made sure I poured half a gallon of water over it (nothing as fancy as PVC pipes and mineral oil, but it worked and I didn't have to haul the boat). Advantage is that it showed bottom structure and fish, but the ST40 has other nav functions such as discance travelled, etc.
