I need to replace an SL172 depth sounder on my Cape Dory 25. Does anyone know what type of transducer to order--flush, extractable or mushroom? Thanks, Ray

You probably can re-use your old transducer - if you don't want to - are you planning on reusing the same hole in the hull (assuming there is one) --
I don't see the need for an extractable one (unless combined with temp and paddle wheel)
Flush usually requires you rent a special drill bit make sure one is available near you
mushroom more drag than flush but easier to install and stronger overall.

or choose the cheapest and "glue" it to the inside of your hull -

Leslie,
Thanks for your suggestions. The old SL172 w/transducer in still installed and under shrink wrap. Since they all cost the same, I think I'll go with the mushroom since I don't really care about the drag and like the idea of easy installation and strength. Happy sailing! Ray
