If you had a choice where would you place the depth sounder thruhull transducer. midships, aft, forward of the keel? Would you place it on the center line or port or starboard????Jim
Jim:You want to have it forward (for obvious reasons). You also want to keep it as close to the centerline as possible. If you have it midship (either side of the keel) and you are healing 20-25 deg. you are probably not going to get a very good reading. If you are not close to the centerline and forward it may be out of the water (more than in).Of course this all depends on how you are mounting it too. If you are going to glue it to the hull or cut a hole for the transducer.
Thanks SteveThe broker or MFG. mounted the orginal one about 6" aft of the packing gland and mid-way in the port locker under in the aft birth of my 1990 H 27. I have stripped all chop strand mat off of the bottom (blisters) and decided I didn't like the placement of the transducer and wanted ideas for better placement. Your idea makes good sence. Thanks!
My Data Marine depth sounder manual says to mount the transducer as far forward of the keel as practical. My knot and depth meter transducers are mounted side-by side well forward. An aft mount for a depth meter sensor makes no sense to me at all.Mike
