Depth Meter Problems

I recently acquired a Catalina 30 Tall Rig, which is great ! We are having some trouble with our depth meter. It seems that when the engine is running the display shows unusually high readings for depth and when the engine is off and we are under sail, the readings seem closer to the depths shown on my charts for a particular area we are navigating in. We have a Signet depth meter. Does anyone have a trouble shooting manual or suggestions for us on how to correct the problem ?

another thought for Diamondcat

I once had a similar problem where the depth meter was accurate while motoring, but would give wildly false readings under sail. It turned out that I had a weak battery ! The SR-Marine model I had required a full 12V + in order for the transducer to work properly. Ron

Signet Depth Meter

Did you ever fix your depth finder? I just purchased a 30' tall rig. It has a Signet MK172 depth finder & it was working fine when we got it & within weeks - it just blinks - we have a book that is worthless for it. Does anyone out there have any ideas?
