I own a 1984 222 and want to install a depth finder. What kind of transducer is best for a do-it-yourselfer, a in-hull, thru-hull or a transom mount? And where should the trans. by located? Also, any advise on the Lowrance 3500 model? Thanks

Depth Sounder

Scott - Asking about brands always stirs up a storm but for what its worth - I don't much like Lowrance. I worked in a Marine store - think big blue signs - and found that we got Lowrance back pretty often. I would go with a dedicated depth sounder from Standard or Raymarine. I would avoid transom mount; they don't work very well on sailboats. Try to find a flat spot on the hull, typically right above or below the keel works well. Through-hull, or in the hull both work well. I installed a through-hull but the hole was already there. Justin - O'day Owners' Web
