I have a signet MK 172 depth meter. Last fall it was giving me irradic readings, so I sent the "black box", or "brain" into Signet for repairs. The repairs were somewhat successful, but recently the meter is not working. It reads 0.0 and 0.2 and flashes. I am now suspecting the transducer. So, the transducer does not appear to penetrate the hull. There is no opening through the hull where the transducer is located below the forward berth. Can I remove the transducer for inspection and cleaning without sinking my boat? I would be greatful to hear from folks with knowledge of this kind of arrangement.Thanks

Depth Meter

We just purchased the boat and the owner showed me where the access to the transducer is. Ours is located in the access under the V-berth. We also have "plugs" to put in place when the speed log or transducer are removed for service. If you dont have them, they should be available from the factory rep in San Diego. The previous owner did remove the speed log for cleaning, it made him nervous when the water began to flow inside, but it was slow and stopped when he put in the plug. Good luck.
