I am thinking about the purchase of a Hunter sailboat, and presently focused on the 36'. Am curious about the anticipated depreciation in the boat. Also interested in any particular problem(s) that a Hunter 36 owner has encountered over time. Appreciate your response.

H36 Minot problems... good boat good luck

I you are talking about new H36... 1. Refrigerator never screwed into the cabinet.. found out when it kept coming out. Easy fix... 4 screws.. didn't bother Hunter about it, just check it out when delivered. 2. Pressurized water pump failure.. H took care of it. 3. Leaky Whale pipes on water system.. H took care of some, I took care of other leaks. 4. Wet looker door, after 9 months veneer came off. H took care of it. 5. Windlass/anchor locker... design flaw not enough angle for rode to slide down, potential for malfunction. You have to keep feeding the rode down the locker. Nothing you can do about it. 6. Had to readjust the engine kill switch and the belts soon after delivery. H would have taken care of it, more fun to do yourself. 7. Make sure if using ST4000, you must have rudder sensor. H and Raymarine took care at no additional cost. Also gps had to be replaced. 8. Light under S/S arch, wires are oxidized and fails to turn on, waiting for H to replace. 9. Depreciation... not an issue for me. I like my boat and it was not a deciding factor. 10.Happy with boat and service. I would buy again. The only other boat I would buy would be for extended/blue water cruising Hylas 49... maybe when I retire. Good Luck abe

h36/356

William, the H36/356, as with all new boats, had some teething problems, but generally have performed very well and rarely are up for sale-and then at essentially new prices. I wouldn't worry about their value. Our 2002 356 had some rain leaks, especially at the hull/deck seam, dealt with by the dealer, and a few minor quality glitches, HUnter has been very responsive when we've had questions, or needed support. It's a great boat, comfortable with excelelnt performance.

Purchased a 2005 36

We got our 36 August 1st of last year. Main problem was with the non-skid on the deck. Hunter came from FL and fixed it right away. Still having minor problems, but it is just like buying house. We couldn't find a used one, and the ones we did look at were within 5-10K of brand new. We love the boat, handles very well. We went simple, not lots of bells and whistles - more to break. It is very comfortable with plenty of room. Good luck with your purchase.
