Dennis, The picture you posted in answer to the question about mast/boom connections is identical to mine. Where you have a bolt with a wing nut through the boom is where, I assume the tack of the main should be attached. the bolt rope holds the tack cringle too high to pass a pin or bolt through however. My question is How do you attach the tack of the main to the boom. is there a fitting of some kind that I don't have? Thanks! John M. Moe

On my V222, the tack was attached to where the wingnut is in the picture, but using a U fastener. Any other arrangement would not allow the main to rotate properly. To reef, you pull out the boom, rotate it, and then push it back in where you want it. I liked the system but somebody stole my boat. If you ever see a bright red V222 with the name Mariah in huge letters on the sides, let me know. Neat boat. BTW, in the future, please post in the thread that was started already.

On my sail
The tack area of the sail fits on my boom. There is an eyelet on the bottom of the sail, that lets the bolt pass through it! I have had no problem. Recently I went to a loose footed main and again i have no problems with that either! Could it be in your sail itself? From my understanding, sometimes the inner rope that holds the main up can shrink, and can cause a problem? Also others have said that they free up the inner rope, and that allows the sail to stretch again.

Sorry about starting a new thread. I didn't understand how the forum works. Dennis, My sail is, I believe, original with the boat. I don't think there is a problem with the bolt rope. Ed, I think your "U fastener" Is what I'm missing. What does it look like. Is it something I can fabricate? Thanks! JM

was original with the boat as well. How ever if you think another link will help you, just get an add-a-link, at any WalMart or True Value store. It will give you some extra space! My sail however does fit, but the loose footed is at least I think better! No problem with the new link here!

Many ways to do this
John There are many ways this is done. Most Macs have a partial U bolt that is bolted through the gooseneck and leaves a J hook upside down which the clew is fastened to. Anything easy and secure is ok. I currently use a shackle from my gooseneck through the clew ring. It is called a "tack shackle. I have seen and used a hank of rope to pull the bolt rope down. Whatever you use it must be secure to allow you to fully set your sail with the main halyard. I suspect something is missing in your setup. I haven't done it but try googling sailboat gooseneck.
