... I'd really love to do this. No problem gathering up a crew of 4 but I've never been off-shore with my Hunter 31'. It looks something like a 120 nM off-shore run down the Delmarva coast between the Delaware Cape--Cape Henlopen and the Virginia Cape--Cape Charles. About another 260 nM through the Chesapeake and Delaware Bays. What do people think... Can this safely be done with a 1985 Hunter 31 that’s really tuned up and in excellent shape? I've done delmarva twice, once on an Island Packet 32, and once on a catalina 36. I am taking delivery of a new Beneteau 393 in early april and plan on joining this rally. Delmarva is alot of fun with night and coastal sailing, its a great way to get some ocean work for those who havn't been offshore. The rally concept should be fun and it adds an element of safety, and the parties should be a blast.
Joe of Rock Hall: How long does the run typically take offshore? This will be my first overnight/offshore run and some of my "crew" are a nervous. I will be sailing a 37.5 that makes pretty good time, 7 knots. Bill Ebling: Ever read Roger Mummah's book about cruising the Bahamas on a H31'? My previous boat was '84 31' (now have a 37.5). I would certainly try it in my 31. I think Roger would agree. Link to his book is below (search on author "Mummah".) It's a great read, especially for an ambitious H31 owner.
