Sailing Lake Michigan

I just purchased a 1994 27' Catalina in Waukegan IL and need to sail it across Lake Michigan to Holland MI
I'm hoping to do it from between Thursday 7-9 through Saturday 7-11. Can anyone recommend a captain or individual that might be able to assist me? Any tips or suggestions would be helpful.

WM,

I just want to add that if picking a delivery captain, remember, this is a sailboat.
I would look for a licensed captain having a USCG Aux-Sail Endorsement.

This is a captain with SAILBOAT EXPERIENCE, MOST CAPTAINS FOR HIRE PILOT POWER BOATS HOWEVER, SAIL ENDORSED CAPTAINS ARE FAR MORE FAMILIAR WITH TRANSPORTING SAILBOATS & THEIR LIMITATIONS.

Spend the time to find the RIGHT captain pal......Sorry about the caps but, I only wish to make an important point.

I am surprised that you don't sail it with a couple of buds who have some experience! .. the trip looks to be only about 80 miles .. a quick look at weather kinda says leave Thursday about noon from Waukegan.. figure 20 or a few more hours.. have someone at the helm who knows what ships look like at night .. and more importantly, knows how to avoid them.. Point her a little north of east and enjoy!

As a former Lake Michigan sailor, check the weather forecast. The lake can be a treacherous as any ocean. -Jon
