I have a 1987 hunter 37 legend. I recently hit a rock off catalina island at about 2 knots. Partially seperated the keel aft etc. On the hard, thermal imaging showed extensive cracking and delamination outboard of the keel about 3 to 4'. We could handle this although though the damage was extensive considering the speed of the collision etc. Further study has shown that aft of the prop there is additional delamination taking place on both the starboard and port sides. It is seeming as though the boat suffered the damage it did as a result of an existing delam problem rather than the opposite. I had the boat surveyed when purchased last year and was told the structural points seemed solid. Is it realistic to expect the delamination that occurred aft of the prop to have happened within a year? The delamination is fairly broad and extensive. The repair at the keel is being done first class by insurance, however I am considering epoxy fill at the rear given that Ins is calling it existing. To fix it the way the rest of the work is being done could cost an additional 10k. ANY THOUGHTS on this?Has Hunter experienced similar problems. The yard and the surveyor (new one is one of the best in the country) says its a "bad boat day" problem from the manufacturer most likely. Any advice or thoughts on this would be appreciated.
