I am wanting to buy a catalina 22 that has been sitting on a trailer for seven years. There is a delamination on the interior bottom floor of the hull in the cabin on the port side underneath one of the lift off covers. It is a crack that is about 10 inches long. I can grip the edge with my fingers and lift up slightly. There seems to be a brown or black wood looking substance underneath. Is this repairable by fiberglass patch?? Does this degrade the hulls strength?? Help from anyone!!

Catalinas are made with plywood cored hulls. Should be no problem to re-glass that area, as long as you make sure the wood is dried out thoroughly.

Plywood hull - NOT

Stu, unless this is somthing with old 22's ? Catalina cores decks and soles but not the HULLS. They are now and and far as know allways have been Solid Fiberglass. Stan "Christy Leigh" c320 #656

John Stan is right, I was wrong. Sorry. Should be solid glass hull. Question is, what's underneath what you are picking up? And what is it you are lifting up?
