Hi All :

A few of the steps in my companionway have started to delaminate at the edges, and I am searching for a fix/cure.

Does anyone know of anything that can be applied/soaked, brushed/pushed into, or otherwise used to get into the delaminated area, stick it back together, and, hopefully, not be so thick that I can feel the effect after the repair is made ?

My thoughts were along the lines of Captain Tolleys Creeping Crack Cure, but as far as I know, which isn't far, that is for fiberglas and gelcoat repair.

Any ideas ??

Thanks...... Jeff

Steve:

I have not contacted Hunter.... yet. Waiting for a homemade cure before doing that.

The reality is that the steps have delaminated only along one or 2 edges, not peeled off like an onion. So, I thought something could be done before buying new ones.

Since I wanted to refinsh them anyway, thought I might kill 2 birds !

Thanks..... Jeff

There is a product (I got some from Catalina) called Loncoin. You may be able to pull off the damaged layers, sand the surface and then apply this stuff. It is very durable. You can then seal the edges with epoxy or varnish.

I think Defender may have the stuff too.

Try some medium thickness cyanoacrylate glue forced between each delaminating ply. Then clamp the edge together but be careful, this stuff glues ANYTHING together. Mine came from Woodworker's Supply but hobby shops have it.
