I'm down in FL, would like to add a portable dehumidifer to my Hunter 40.5.
1. Any advice on a good model and right size?
2. I plan to place the unit over the galley sink, does this sink drain to a Through-Hull
3. Any other considerations?

We keep a dehumidifier on board when the boat is docked. The drain hose is inserted through the finger hole in the sole panel over the bilge. The unit is held in place by a bungee cord. For a boat your size get one of at least 50 pints with dryness percentage selector and a connection for a drain hose. Those small portable unit or 12V just do not do the job as humidity seems to seep in faster than they can remove it. Yes the sink drain goes out to a rather large thru-hull but on top of the sink is no place to seat an adequate dehumidifier.

The sink drains overboard via the thruhull under the sink.

You really should learn where every seacock is,not just for periodic inspection and maintenance but also in case of an emergency which is not a good time to start learning.

We run a dehumidifier all summer on our boat. It is hauled in Florida for that period. I bought one at Home Depot, set it on the galley counter and run the hose into the sink. I also run a couple of fans, one at each end of the boat to circulate the air inside. We have not had any issues with mold or mildew in the boat with the boat sealed up this way for the entire summer. We have the yard check the boat once a month to confirm all is OK inside.

One other thing be sure the dehumidifier resets itself if the power goes off for a period, some need to be manually turned back on, power in a boat yard can be off a few times a month
