Deep boat ramp - Chesapeak Bay

Hi,

I bought a trailer for my O'Day 25 (w/centerboard) this winter so that I can work on it at home. Now I need to find a deep water ramp within reach of the DC/Annapolis area. We draw 2'8 and have an extended tongue for the trailer.

I thought the one at Casa Rio Marina in Mayo was deep, but it has been 10 years since I launched there.

Sandy Point State Park at the Bay Bridge has a large launching area, but have never used it. Nice, big concrete aprons, and right on the bay.

I would recommend Sandy Point State park. We launched and retrieved our H260 there for several years. Long ramps into the water.

Sandy point is a great location. If you want to sail the potomac, washington sailing marina has great facilities.

Thanks all! It sounds like Sandy Point is the place to check out. I'll dig into Casa Rio as well. I am not daysailing as I have a slip at Herrington Harbour N. I am simply trying to avoid their murderous launch fees.
Now to work on a gin pole.

I have a Lancer 25 with a 30" draft, no tongue extension and I launch about any place I feel like it. Once I had the tires in about 12 inches of water, but most of the time, they are just getting wet. You should have not problem on any ramp that the good sized stink-potters are using.

We once used a shallow town ramp by a popular sand bar on a lake. Here that old guy is backing a SAILBOAT, of all things, down the ramp, with a groups of muscley 20 somethings looking on, and snickering. Yeah, I buried the tires and launched effortlessly, or so I led on.

So, be careful but don't be afraid.
