Dee Caffari "the first woman to sail single-handed, non stop around the world against the prevailing winds and currents" was dismasted in 45+ knot winds, 300 miles from the finish of the Transat B to B ( Brazil to Brittany) Open 60 qualifying race. She is now floundering and will take up to 24 hours to get a tow into Spain. http://www.deecaffari.co.uk/ Meanwhile Derek Hatfield on Spirit of Canada and American Rich Wilson are closing on the finish, 6 days behind the finishers. Derek lost his autopilot early on in the race and struggled to keep the boat on course 24 hours a day, now into this 20th day.

Update

You have to click back to Wed. the 19th in her diary, for her description of the dismasting, interesting and scary. She is participating in a qualifier for the Open 60 solo Vendee Globe around the world race. More on the Transat B to B race http://www.transatbtob.com/lang-gb.html Derek Hatfield and Chris Wilson will probably finish together, although Derek is ahead, he is on a wider tack ( probably due to no autohelm) he will have to tack in and will meet up with Chris to cross the finish line.
