Decksweeper and visibility

I have a big, decksweeping, furling genoa and love it in the light winds I often end up sailing in. But visibility is poor--I can't see a thing ahead off the leeward side and when crew is occupied and the Sound is busy it can be unnerving. Short of putting a window in my headsail is there anything that can be done to pull that thing off the deck a bit?

Visibility

Is your genoa a full hoist? Are you able to hoist it higher up the headstay? You may be able to attach a short wire pendent to the tack of the sail to raise it off the deck. Of course this changes the center of effort, sheet leads and how the the sail furls. It was recommended to me by a local sailmaker. It helped somewhat and was better than recutting the sail. Good Luck!

Pendant

As Bob mentioned, the only way would be to install some kind of pendant but only if you have some clearance. Good luck. LaDonna

Leeward

David, Sit on the leeward side when using your genoa. The telltales are more visible and you can see below the sail from the low side. Rodney Kidd C-38 #297, Flying Bear
