I am putting a pressure water system in Saint Somewhere, my 93 23.5, and would like to avoid drilling through the cored deck up forward. Jack, also a 23.5 owner, suggested the anchor locker instead of the V-berth deck. I am using a water bladder so don't need a vent connection. My question is, how thick is the bottom of the anchor locker and is it cored? It would be great if it was just fiberglass. The plan is to have pressure water to the sink and to the port cockpit deck locker. Too many gators in the lakes and too much salt in the oceans, so this alternative should work well.

Thanks for your inputs,

Ed, I have a Hunter 33.5 and the water fill is in the anchor lockeron the upper ledge on the starboard side. The vent is there also. Both hoses run down an go under the vee berth where the water tank is located under the aft most hatch board on the vee berth. The water filter and pressure pump are there also. I dont know the thickness in the anchor locker, but I beleive that it is laid up fiberglass - not positive.

We put a 6 gallon water tank under the galley sink in Kinship, with the water fill just forward of the port coaming box. We also replaced the portopotty with a small pump head, and put a 9 gallon holding tank under the forward part of the v-berth. The pump out fitting is in the anchor locker. As I recall (it's been a few years), the anchor locker is cored, because of the u-bolt that is used to raise and lower the mast located there. But the access was easy from below by removing the small bulkhead forward of the v-berth. The hardest part was digging through the foam flotation.

Not Cored

It is very thin which is why I gave up on the u bolt to lift the mast and put in a big padeye with a bigger backing plate

Pressure Water Installed, with a few problems

Pulled the boat in front of my deed restricted house and worked for 5 hours in 90+ degrees with a box fan blowing on me, but I did finish the install. Delivery delays and lack of time made me miss the cooler spring weather we had here in Florida. A couple of surprises/problems: the cockpit locker has foam flotation on the sides (at least where I wanted to mount the deck shower) so I ended up enlarging the original sink pump hole (my new whale faucet only needed a 1 inch hole) to mount the shower horizontally versus vertically. The closed shower compartment sticks up less than a 1/4 inch and has a 6 foot hose to pull into the cockpit, so that worked out. The anchor locker is not cored and was nearly 1/4 inch thick so the deck fill went in pretty easily (with some extra help from a file around the edges). The last problem I had was DC vs AC. Black is hot in a DC system and I was tired/hot, but I realized it as soon as the battery arced a little. One last problem, again due to the heat, was leaving one hose clamp off when I turned the pump on. Pumped a half gallon of water under the sink before I realized it. Remedied that and stood in the cockpit hosing myself down with the 3 gallons of water I had put into the 20 gallon plastimo bladder up forward. Promised my wife a late lunch at the local Mexican Restaurant with margaritas if she cleaned up.

Ready for a 5 day July trip in Charlotte Harbor,

Ed
