I would like some recommendations on products to clean and wax the rough, non-skid areas of my 1997 h26's deck and cockpit. I live in Mexico and the only product available to me here is Seapower Wash N'Wax Boat Soap. It does an okay job, but I'm planning a shopping trip north next month to Washington and Northern California. I'll have access to a wider variety of products. This is important to me because I need to protect my boat against the year-round heat and sunlight that we have here. Anything that you swear by? Thanks. David King

Gelcoat Forum

Hi Dave, You should ask this question in the gelcoat forum. Jim knows all and would be able to tell you how to care for your nonskid in your conditions. LaDonna

Soft-Scrub

Through nearly 20 years of trying everything under the sun, I still come back to Soft-Scrub as the best clearner for fiberglass, and particularly for non-skid areas. I know of a couple boat dealers who use nothing else to clean both new and second-hand boats. Dale

Try the Aurora product

This spring I used Aurora Boat Scrub on the deck of our 1984 H34, the chalkiness was gone, and then I waxed it with the Aurora non skid wax. They are a Canadian Company, and they will sell mail order, or thru Boater's World. It has been several months, and some chalk has returned, so I will give it another cleaning and sealing in fall. However, the deck looked great for a long time, still does look better than since I bought the boat 11 years ago. Island Girl has a product in development, that will be available soon also.

Ditto On the Soft Scrub

Just tried it last weekend and boy what a difference it makes from Fantastic or regular boat wash. Only use it on the topside and not the hull.

Non-Skid Deck Areas

After cleaning the non-skid deck areas with Aurora Boat Scrub, we use Aurora Sure Step non-skid polish to protect it. Very satisfied Dick Carey

I'm trying the Island Girl product for non-skid

and am impressed with it. Jim can tell you more about it on the Gelcoat forum. I applied it a six weeks ago and water is still beading and the non-skid is still just that-non-skid. This was a test sample and I will let Jim know in detail how it worked at season's end. At this point I would use it next year along with the other Island Girl products.
