I am ordering a new C310 I thought a useful extra would be a seawater deck wash for washing off the anchor/chain after mooring. I have been told they are not that useful due to the fact the water stream is not strong. I am going to do further research on the subject. I gather I have to put in a thru hull inlet seacock to draw up saltwater. I will get this put in during production and maybe add the pump kit later after research & evaluation. Any 310/catalina owners have experience of deck wash kits their effectiveness & usefulness. Best type for best result etc Also what is the best location ie inside anchor well or ???

deck wash

Now I don't have a deck wash on my c27, but i've been on several other boats that do have them, and although the pressure is not usually great, it helps to reduce the crud that you bring onboard, especially in mud bottoms. Regarding thru hull, you should be able to T off of the head intake, or some other intake (although i wouldn't use the engine intake).

C320 Washdown Pump

There is a feature on a C320 washdown pump installation on the Catalina 320 International Association website. Should be fairly similar to the C310. I use a low-tech long-handled brush that I dip in the water & take off the major crud as the chain/anchor comes up. Then throw a bucket of seawater over the deck & anchor for a "final rinse." I remember some years back when I was crewing on the schooner "Ocean Star." We were anchored at NY City, near Tribeca on the Hudson River side, and as that chain started coming up it had 4-5 inches of sticky, gooey muck (and I won't mention what else, living & dead) in every link of the last 40 feet of the chain. Even our high volume/pressure fire hose barely cleaned it off ... --RonD

C 310 Deck Wash

I have a C 310 and had the dealer install a deck wash down pump. The thru hull is located in the fwd cabin next to the know meter impeller with the facuet being in the anchor locker. The pump is mounted near the winch. Can't remember the name of the pump but it works well. WM has a Blaster Pro washdown pump that I used on my C 25. It works very well, pumps water up to 12' high and you can run it dry without hurting it. Highly recommended.
