Deck top clutches, organizers, winches

Hunter 33 (Cherubini) Poughkeepsie
I have an 1980 hunter 33 which does not have any clutches, organizers or winches mounted on the cabin top. I'd like to bring my main halyard and boom vang to the cockpit to ease solo sailing (maybe I should bring more?). I have two questions for you more experienced cherubini hunter owners:
1. It appears there is a liner with an airgap (or is it foam?) between the cabin roof and the deck - I assume I can't drill all the way down from the deck to mount clutches etc since the bolts would pull through the liner.
2. There are some mounting plates on the desk - I assume that is what they are. I attached a photo. Can I screw an organizer for example onto one of these and expect it to hold? Do I need to drill through them instead, and if so are the solid all the way to the cabin roof?

A friend suggested adding a rectangle of G10 board fixed with 5200 epoxy to the deck and screwing the clutches etc onto the G10 board. Do you think that will hold? Would it hold a winch?

I appreciate any advice or experience you want to share!
thanks

Damian

If you want to thrubolt deck hardware, drill the hole through the deck and the cabin liner. Then drill the liner with a 1” hole or so such that you can get the washer, nut and a socket on it. They make plastic plugs to then cover the hole.

Best practice if the deck is cored would be to drill the thru deck hole over-sized, then fill with thickened epoxy. Once dry, redrill the correct sized hole.

Hunter used some aluminum plates in certain locations for threading bolts into so no nut was required on the inside. But with no reference holes or any idea if this boat had something in there, I think your best bet is to with the through bolt option.

@Tally Ho is spot on

I wouldnt rely upon threaded G10 for this purpose. Plus, you'll need to protect the G10 from UV. Lots of extra steps in there. If you use the embedded plate, be sure to use Tefgel to prevent corrosion. I've read many reports of this being an issue when it's time to remove

The raised areas for deck hardware mounting might have aluminum plate laminated under the fiberglass for drill and tap hardware installation.. At least that’s the case with my 1982 H30. Can’t say for sure about your boat.
A good non-invasive way to check is with a moisture meter. It will give a false saturated reading if there’s metal in the deck.
