Hi All,
I'm about to purchase a Hunter 466 and have heard about problems with the deck to hull joint at the stern of a Hunter 460. Does anyone know if this problem was solved on the 466?

Thanks.

I have had my H466 for 11 years and never had a problem. I know of several 460 466 owners in the local area, model years 2000-2003 and never heard of them having any issues with the stern on any of them here or elsewhere.

Thanks Mike. I've been looking at 460 / 466's the last couple of months and have seen two 460's where it was pointed out how the joint had been re-glassed at the stern. Evidently, at least on those two, there was some rot due to a small amount of water seeping through the joint.

Glad to hear you've had no trouble with your 466, I hope to be the proud owner of one in the next couple of weeks. :)

Lots of the Hunters with the hull/deck joint are fiberglassed at the stern because that is the water all the time. I don't feel that is much of a problem really and is just kind of smart. I went to check mine a few years ago and found that the lower stern section joint on my 410 is glassed, and as I can tell the boat came that way.

Not so good

Well....... the survey didn't go so well. It found quite a bit wrong with the boat, which is why you pay a surveyor. So we're adjusting our sights to a 460 that appears to be in much better shape. The 460 has had the joint at the stern glassed, or so I've been told.

What sort of issues did they find. The reason that I ask is because a surveyor did an inspection on a Bene 39 in our harbor several weeks ago and deetermined that there was a lot of moisture in the fore deck. The new buyer actually drilled core samples in the deck and it was in perfect condition.

This issue with these moisture meters has been an issue for a long time. I do not know if it is the instrument or the operator, but be aware (if you are a buyer or seller).

Hi Steve,
No, it wasn't moisture. None of the electronics were working, all of the faucets needed replacing as did multiple pumps, portlights were leaking, the genoa fell down during the sea trial. Good thing I didn't take Captain Ron's advice, I'd rather that stuff fail at the dock or close to it.
