Deck Strategy

I've recently been able to get Kerstin back in the water after four
years up on blocks. The one thing that I'm completely dissatisfied with
is the condition of the deck. It's severely weathered and worn not to
mention beige! Locally, I've had recommendations to use a topside
paint.

Any ideas, recommendation, experience, or advice?

Hi Tim

The best way I have found is to remove all deck hardware (big job), clean with acetone os similar, prepare for painting (sand, smooth and clean again) then paint with two part epoxy (white). The last one I did I used three coats of undercoat and three coats of topcoat (Blakes). The raised antislip surface was then painted with Blakes anti-slip deck paint (Stone colour). The finished job was really good and still looks fine after about five years (Ask Debonair owner Jim MacKay). It should be done with the Vega under cover and a temperature of at least 10 degrees celcius (50 Farenheit). Hope this helps.

Kind Regards

Several years ago we refinished Lealea. The deck had bare fiberglass showing in several places. We refinised with Awlgrip paint and nonskid. The results were beautiful and much more effective nonskid than the original molded in stuff. Apply according to directions with a roller, sprinkle nonskid polymer beads generously, let cure, apply another coat or two of paint with a roller. For the shiny parts apply paint with a roller and tip off with a good boar bristle brush. No one will believe you didn't spray it on.

Aloha,

Chuck

I'm in the process of repainting my deck. I used Interlux Brightside White for the trim and cabin truck, and the non-skid was done with Interlux Interdeck Beige. Looks pretty snazzy and seems to be pretty tough. Can't wait to get the boat done!
