Re: Deck/Cock pit Non Skid Area Paint


My 1993 Hunter 23.5....My white non skid area on my deck and cockpit needs repair/or paint? The non skid area alone has what appears to be tiny (the size of lead in pencil) holes in the non skid paint..... Black in color very small and very small in size.
The non skid paint area that's on there now is white and looks like it was applied with a sponge with these very small swirly raised ( less than 1/8 inch) areas of paint.
I am certain the damage was caused by different people, including me ,from walking in street tennis shoes. No black buff marks.
Question is; do I need to sand this area,and prime the same area; or can it just be painted with good non skid paint.
If the later what would you recommend?.Please advise......thanks in advance...fair winds...mark<><

Personally I would NEVER use paint for the non-skid. Kiwii Grip is a much better alternative and will last much longer and will not be subject to problems with different potential cleaners that are NOT compatible with paint

I'm pretty sure that unless someone has painted your boat that the non-skid is molded in the fiberglass or gelcoat (though I may be wrong). I'd clean it with "On and Off" and treat it with one of the top deck protectors by Woody Wax or Island Girl. I've read a lot of good reviews on products by them but have never used them personally (other than On and Off), as I've always just waxed even the non-skid on my boat with Colinite fleet wax and it's still in good shape. You could also try to buff it to clean it up. I'd try to revive it first, before I went the route of redoing it with Kiwi Grip or Awl Grip.
